Sorry.

Hey Guys. Between computer issues and life in general, the episode will be late this week. I will hopefully be posting it tomorrow evening. See you guys then.

Flying dog!

Hey Every one,

This Friday morning I will be recording an episode at Flying Dog in Fredrick MD. If any one has anything specific that they would like to ask why not call into our number:(703)375-9355. Leave a voice mail question and I’ll ask it during the podcast.

Episode 10 Women in Beer.

This weeks episode was recorded at Bread and Brew in DC.
Thanks to Marcia for taking time out of her busy schedule.

Episode Notes:
If you haven’t yet, you should pick up a copy of Maureen Ogle’s book, Ambitious Brew.

Really!?!?!?

So if you have been crawling the beer news feeds, you will know that beer was seized from three bars in Pennsylvania last week. To summarize the story, the $75  registration fee was not paid on the beer by the brewery and even though the beer was paid for and licensed by the bars it was still taken in organized “raids”.

Apparently the whole thing started because someone complained. I find this bit very suspicious. In reality who would have anything to gain by complaining. There are a lot things that happen off the record in the craft beer community, and ‘unregistered’ beer is just one example of the way some of us can try those beers that aren’t generally available in our areas. I worry that this will set a very bad precedent and in time all the fun things (that don’t hurt anyone) that we get away with now will slowly be stomped out.

Here is a link to the story through Beernews.org, the Beer sage has the best links for those who want to look into the story.

Beer seized in Philly.

Time Off

I will be taking a week off for personal reasons starting today. East Coast Beercast will resume next Friday. The Home brewing episode that was supposed to post this Saturday, will post next Friday. Thank you for your understanding. See You in a week.

Huma-Lupa-Licious

I just read a great article from Inc. Magazine online. It’s about a small brewpub in Michigan that decided to start in a town in the middle of nowhere and three years later their beer is available in about 1,000 stores and vendors. And when you head to the web page and scroll down you will notice that they have had some bad beer go out. What did they do about it, aside from the spanking video. They offered a number of different refund options. These guys are obviously passionate about good beer. I love reading stories like this. It means that no matter how the economy is doing, the craft beer industry in America will always have room for grass roots development and expansion. The title up there is one of their beers. Follow the link below to their website and check them out, or if you live in Michigan, why not head there in person.

Short’s Brewing Company

South Carolina Rise up!

A digitel call to action to help S.C.’s craft beer.

I was going to post something else tonight after I got home from recording Episode 8, but I checked my RSS feed and found this. Long story short; Right now you can not sample or buy directly from a brewery at all in South Carolina. This could change. If you live in SC and want to have a say in how beer laws are determined (you know, kinda what those guys we call our Fore-fathers wanted for us as a nation) then follow the link and call your representative. If you know some one who lives in SC, why not pass along the word.

Correction

Hey Guys,

It was pointed out to me that I made a mistake in episode 3. I accidentally said  Brew hard was a podcast put out by the Brewing Network. The actual show is Brew Strong. The brewing network puts out this podcast along with many other shows focused on drinking and making better beer, and they are the home of the BN Army. If you like beer, I recommend you head over and check them out. I want to thank Edmond for pointing out the mistake, mostly because that means some one is actually listening, but also because that means that I can put out a better show. If there are any comments you guys have, or things you would like to see in the show that aren’t shoot an email to eastcoastbeercast@gmail.com , and let me know what I can do different.

Capitol lounge

Well I just finished recording episode four with Jeff wells. Talk about some one who has been there, done that, and got the t-shirt. The show should be up on Saturday. Tomorrow I’m recording with Rob Hill of Total wine. If you have any beer retail questions, email them to eastcoastbeercast@gmail.com.
