The Brewing Cabinet

I love beer. I love the culture behind it. I love the history of it. I love drinking it. So it is a natural progression for me to make it at home. There is only one issue. I live in an apartment. You may say, “How is that a problem? All you need is a stove to make beer.” And you would be right. Making beer is not the issue. Fermentation is the issue. The ambient temperature in my apartment is not good even for ales. Maybe some day I can convince my wife to let me do some open lambic, or sour fermentation in our bathtub, but until then I have had to make other arrangements. I built myself a fermentation chamber. My fermentation chamber was built on a budget.

A really small budget.

I have always wanted to do one like I see other home brewers have. A larger structure that could handle up to two fermentation  vessels. The other day I was walking back to mu apartment and saw this set out with the trash.

It is perfect. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was meant to make beer. Lots of beer. The goal is to turn it into a fermentation chamber that can also be sanded and stained so it can sit in our kitchen, and my wife won’t be embarrassed. I will be doing this one  also on a budget, but I believe that I can reuse most of the materials from the first fermentation chamber. It will probably take me a little over a month do little bits here and there, but I plan on documenting the entire thing. I also plan on listing parts and cost. Just because you don’t have lot of coin, shouldn’t mean that you can’t have cool home brewing toys. You just have go all beer-McGyver.

Excellent! sorry I’m so behind on checking this out man! Your site is looking great and I’m loving the feedback. That cabinet should be a great fermentation chamber soon.

I wholly delight in brewing beer at home! It has been such a enjoyable hobby. My family has been supportive, but most especially when its time to try my latest concoction. I was startled to learn that it is actually the fruitier seasonal brews that I prefer. Just wanted to say thank you for the tips you’ve shared along the way, its been helpful.
